His Position (2:1) His Submission (2:2) His Condition (2:3-4a) From the fish’s belly, his spiritual position of rebellion turned to repentance Regardless of his physical position, he was confident God would & could still hear him (cf. Prov. 15:3; Psa. 139:7-10; Col. 4:2) His Submission (2:2) His affliction caused him to fear, turn and cry out to the Lord (cf. Psa. 119:67, 71; 130:1-2) He recognized how wrong he had been and how blessed he was for God to hear and answer His way (cf. Isa. 66:2; 55:8-9) His Condition (2:3-4a) His rebellion caused him to be cast out by God, giving him what he wanted (cf. 1:3, 10; Rom. 1:24, 26, 28) God’s discipline is not always easy, but it is for our profit (cf. Heb. 12:9-11)

His Expectation (2:4b) His Preservation (2:5-6) The fact that he was still alive in the fish’s belly caused him to turn his heart back to God and assured him of regaining God’s presence (cf. Rom. 2:4) He had failed, but his failure was not fatal or final (cf. 2 Pet. 3:9) His Preservation (2:5-6) He reflected on the grave destruction all around him, to which he was helpless While his situation seemed hopeless, he realized there was only One capable of delivering him and preserving his life (cf. Eph. 3:20-21; Matt. 19:26) His Dedication (2:7-9a) He remembered the Lord after having forsaken Him He promised to offer continuous thanks to God (cf. Eph. 5:20) He vowed to fulfill the promises he made to God (cf. Rev. 2:10)

Are You Absolutely Sure of Your Salvation? His Salvation (2:9b) He was absolutely sure of his salvation (2 Pet. 1:10; 1 John 5:13) Because he was absolutely sure of the Source (cf. 2 Tim. 1:12; Acts 4:12) Are You Absolutely Sure of Your Salvation? Believe Jesus is God’s Son – John 20:30-31 Repent of your sins and turn to God – 2 Peter 3:9 Confess your faith in Jesus – Romans 10:9-10 Be immersed into Christ – Acts 2:38 Commit yourself to faithful living – Revelation 2:10
