Literary Elements Interactive Notebook Number the first 20 pages. The first page in the book is your table of contents. It should look like this 

Story Vocabulary Can be found on page 2. Cut out the 5 story vocabulary boxes: plot, setting, protagonist, antagonist, and complications Glue them down on the page. It should look like this 

Story Vocabulary Plot – The chain of events that makes up the story Setting – The time and place of a story Protagonist – The main character in a story Antagonist – The character or force in conflict with the protagonist Complications – problems that arise as characters struggle to reach their goals

Plot Structure Can be found on page 3. Cut out the large plot structure rectangle, and glue it down. It should look like this 

Plot Structure Inciting incident – The event that sets the story in motion Exposition The first part of the plot Characters, setting, and basic situation are introduced Rising Action Main part of the story Moves the plot along Where complications & conflict arise

Plot Structure Climax Falling Action Resolution The most exciting or intense part of the story for the protagonist The OMG!!!! Usually a turning point Falling Action Events that follow the climax and lead to the resolution Conflicts begin moving towards resolution Resolution The end of the story Loose ends of the plot are tied up Remaining questions are answered Conflicts are resolved
