Introduction to Divine Revelation Wednesday, May 29, 2019 I Believe in God Introduction to Divine Revelation Wednesday, May 29, 2019

May 29, 2019 God is Holy Mystery. God has revealed Himself to us, and in doing so has shown us that He is living and personal. Because God has revealed Himself to us, we can have a loving relationship with Him.

Each Divine Person is distinct from the other. May 29, 2019 2. The mystery of the Holy Trinity is the central mystery of the Christian faith and of Christian life (CCC #261). The One God is Father, Son and Spirit. This means: The Trinity is One. Each Divine Person is distinct from the other. The Divine Persons are in relation to each other.

3. God is the creator of heaven and earth. May 29, 2019 3. God is the creator of heaven and earth. a. God created the world out of His wisdom and love. b. God made the universe out of nothing. c. Creation reflects God’s goodness and wisdom and is ordered in a way for us to perceive this. Continued

3. God is the creator of heaven and earth. May 29, 2019 3. God is the creator of heaven and earth. d. God is present in the universe and continues to sustain it at every moment. 5

May 29, 2019 4. Angels… …are spiritual beings that God created to glorify Him and work for our salvation. Those that rebelled against God are the demons, lead by Satan. Their power is limited and not greater than God’s.

May 29, 2019 5. Genesis 1-2… …uses poetic, theological and symbolic language to describe God’s purpose for the visible world. 7

6. Through His Divine Providence… May 29, 2019 6. Through His Divine Providence… …God continues to guide creation. 8

7. God has given angels and human beings… May 29, 2019 7. God has given angels and human beings… …free will. Angels and humans have abused this gift, and consequently evil and suffering exist. God answers the problem of evil by sending His Son to the world to offer His life for us. 9

For Discussion/USCCA P. 72. Add also: May 29, 2019 For Discussion/USCCA P. 72. Add also: What would life be like if God had not given us free will? How is free will a reflection of God’s love for us? How would you respond to the person who said who struggled with a good God allowing evil and suffering to exist? What evidence do you have that God has not remained ‘on the sidelines’ in combating evil, but rather has taken an active role in overcoming it.
