El verbo Ir

Ir To go

The verb ir is irregular Yo tú él/ella/Ud. Nosotros ellos/Uds. Voy vas va vamos van

When we use the preposition a with verbs of motion such as ir or viajar, it means “to.” Voy a escuela hoy. I’m going to school today.

Just as we say “going to” in English to talk about the future, we can use a form of Ir + a + infinitive in Spanish. Voy a comprar una blusa. I’m going to buy a blouse. Vamos a cantar en la clase de música hoy. We’re going to sing in music class today.

Vamos a + infinitive means “let’s” Vamos a bailar. Let’s dance. Vamos a ir a la fiesta. Let’s go to the party.

Practice (Assignment) Vamos a comer. ¿Vas a ir a pie? María va al aeropuerto. La profesora va a llevar un sombrero.
