The Heavy Metal Case study for the Netherlands Eric van der Swaluw, Bert Leekstra, Addo van Pul (RIVM) & Ilia Ilyin (MSC-E)

Case study Heavy Metals (Pb, Cd and Hg; yr 2007) for the Netherlands Aim of study for the Netherlands To have an up-to-date assessment of current pollution levels of heavy metals (concentration and deposition) The outcome of the case-study will be used (among others) in the assessment of the monitoring program of heavy metals in the Netherlands Input from the Netherlands Emissions on high resolution grid (5x5 km) observations in air and precipitation from all monitoring sites

Emissions in the Netherlands 1 Pb emissions for 2007 EMEP Grid (50x50) Source: http://www.emissieregistratie.nl Lead emissions from the grid of emission registration are transformed (indicated by the blue arrow) to the EMEP grid Standard

Emissions in the Netherlands 2 Pb emissions for 2007 EMEP Grid (5x5) Source: http://www.emissieregistratie.nl Lead emissions from the grid of emission registration are transformed (indicated by the blue arrow) to the high resolution EMEP grid Case study

Observations in the Netherlands of heavy metals (Pb and Cd) Please don’t move the figures, the stars have been placed inside the ppt presentation itself. The stars indicated the locations of the monitoring sites Air Precipitation Frequency: every other day Frequency: weekly samples

Example of lead in precipitation at four monitoring stations in 2007 Just an illustration of the lead concentrations in precipitation for the year 2007.

Future: simulations performed with EMEP model on high resolution Lead deposition 2007 HIGH RESOLUTION (5x5) EMEP SIMULATION RESULTS (for next time) I just wanna mention here that the panel left is the lead deposition calculated with the normal EMEP model, the blue map is to indicate the work in preparation. Just a slide to finish off because there are no conclusions yet (since we are only starting up). Standard EMEP grid (50x50)
