3rd Grade Seac Project Sun or Shade By: Rhianna Gooneratne

Question Is the air the same temperature in the sun and shade?

Materials thermometer Hang a thermometer in the shade for five minutes. Record the temperature of the air. Hang the thermometer in the sun for five minutes. Record the temperature of the air.

The air is not the same temperature in the sun and shade. My Hypothesis The air is not the same temperature in the sun and shade.

On the first data collection date and the third, the temperature in the sun was hotter while the temperature in the shade was cooler. On the second data collection date it changed. It was a cooler temperature in the sun and a hotter temperature in the shade.

Temperatures 2/26/16 In the Sun In the Shade 48˚F 39˚F

Temperatures 3/1/16 In the Sun In the Shade 58˚F 60˚F

Temperatures 3/2/16 In the Sun In the Shade 40˚F 39˚F

Analysis and Conclusion I think that it feels warmer in the sun because when you are outside, the sun is warming the air and is shining on your skin.
