Simile A comparison of unlike things using like or as. Her ring was as shiny as a chandelier.

Metaphor – Phrase for one thing used for another. He is an owl when he reads at night.

Sally saw snakes swimming Alliteration- Repetition of the beginning sound with the first three letters of that sentence. Sally saw snakes swimming

Idiom- Set phrase with a special meaning. Sick as a dog,: Really Sick.

Personification- Giving as in inanimate object life like Qualities. The raindrops ran down the window.

Hyperbole- Exaggeration for effect not meant to be taken literally. Joe grew taller then Mount Everest.
