Statistics 101 CORRELATION Section 3.2

What is correlation? The direction and strength of the linear relationship between two quantitative variable. What are quantitative variables? What do you think direction implies? What do you think strength implies?

What does r mean? Does not distinguish between explanatory and response variable Variables are quantitative r does not change when we change units of measure Positive r indicates positive association Negative r indicates negative association -1 to 1 Strength of linear relationship Not resistant to outliers
