Canadian women in the 1920’s By:Rebekah Miller and Chianna Tippett

What we will be talking about the changing of women's roles during the war Women’s fashion during the 1920’s Flappers Famous females during that time Women's right to vote Then vs now (how women are treated)

Changes in women’s lives during the war Before world war 1 women and men were always associated with different jobs when it came to day to day life. Women were expected to stay at home and take care of children,clean and cook Men were always expected to do all the work that is outside the house jobs that pay During the world war this all changed because many men had to leave to war so women had to take over their jobs Women were brought in to work for economic stability for their countries Even though pay wages were raised for women during the war women at the time were getting paid 30-50% less than men Changes in women’s lives during the war

This includes dressing differently than what was expected Some of the things that they did that were “unacceptable’ at that time was wore short skirts/dresses, bobbed hair and viewed sex as a casual in manner

Canadian female icons from that time Angelina napolitano was a immigrant women who murdered her abusive husband. She was the first women to use the “battered woman defence” on a murder trial and ignited discussion on equal defence rights . Doris Anderson was a newspaper columnist and paved the way for women in getting women equal rights including the charter of rights.

More Important canadian women Viola Desmond was a African American woman who stood up for black rights in Nova Scotia when she refused to sit in the permitted sitting area for black people in a movie theater. Jean.B.Lumb was a chinese woman who raised awareness about discriminating immigrant laws to chinese people. Eileen tallman sufrin was a woman who lead canada's first strike as a labour organiser and workers advocate.

Women's right to vote during the 1920’s In 1916 women were allowed voting in manitoba and some other states however many people were against it even when it was legal. There was other cases of women voting before 1916 however if they women were caught they would have been punished In 1917 Canada's federal electoral made a law stating that idiots,mad men,criminals and judges were not allowed voting even though it never stated women women were still not allowed to vote in national elections.
