Greentree Science Fair 2019 Thursday, March 21, 2019
Who Can Participate? Any Gator who is interested in doing experiments or likes to research, grades K-5.
There will be 2 different science fairs in our GTE Science Fair. New this Year! There will be 2 different science fairs in our GTE Science Fair. A Science Fair for experiment projects! A Science Fair for research projects! Each science fair will have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each grade level and 1st, 2nd, 3rd place Best of Show.
Can i work with a partner? Yes. You can work with 1 partner. If the partners are in two different age grade levels, the project will be judged with the higher grade level projects.
Can I enter a project in both fairs? No. You can only do one project. It has to be either an experiment or a research project; it can’t be both.
Do I need to keep a journal? Yes! Scientist keep track of their brainstorming, supplies, data, questions, conclusions etc. in a journal. The judges really like to see the work of the journal.
How do i display my work? You will need to purchase a tri-fold board at Target, Walmart ect. To enter into the science fair.
When will I set up my project? Project set up will be after school on Wednesday, March 20th, from 3:30-4 in the cafeteria.
What are the rules? Do not bring anything alive or dangerous. Do not bring food, liquids or glass.
How will my project be judged? Science Fair Experimental Projects Creative Objective – Is the project objective original and creative? Have you seen it before? Clear Objective – Is the objective of the project stated clearly and concisely? Creative Design – Is the design original and creative? Have you seen it before? Use of Scientific Method – Did the student use the scientific method as seen in the display, logbook, and presentation? Understanding of Scientific Principles – Did the student understand the underlying scientific principles? Laboratory Journal & Repetitions – Was the journal complete and were an appropriate number of repetitions performed? Student Effort – How much of the work was done by the student vs. parents or professionals? Consistent Conclusions – Are the conclusions consistent with the Hypothesis and the Results? Oral Presentation Quality & Clarity – The Oral Presentation is important and indicated the level of knowledge the student has of the project. Was the presentation well organized, accurate, and well done? Display Quality & Clarity – The Display is also important to the overall representation of the project. Was the display well organized, accurate, complete, and easy to read?
Judging continued…. Science Fair Investigations (Models, Research, and Demonstrations) Journal – A record all of the students’ ideas and activities throughout the investigation. Research Thoroughness – Research is an important part of the investigation. How thorough was it? Did it include multiple sources? Were they reliable sources? Research Accuracy – Research is an important part of the investigation. Did the research yield meaningful and correct information? Research Paper Quality – A Research Paper (Report) is required. How well presented was it? Research Paper Thoroughness – A Research Paper (Report) is required. Did it cover the material appropriately? Was the information noted accurate? Research Paper Completeness – A Research Paper (Report) is required. Did the Paper cover the material completely? Were there missing pieces? Accuracy of Representation – The Presentation indicates what the student has learned. Was it accurate and complete? Quality of the Representation – The Presentation indicates what the student has learned. Was it well done? Did the student know their material? Display Accuracy – The Display is a big part of the presentation. Was the information complete? Was it accurate? Display Quality – The Display is a big part of the presentation. Was the Display done in a logical manner? Was it easy to follow? Investigations must include a research paper, a poster (display), and a journal. They may also include a model or other representation.
Just remember….. Students should do a project based on having fun exploring the world around them. The work should be done by the students with parental support and encouragement.
When will the awards be given out? We will have a celebration of learning for all participants on Friday, March 22, at 8:15 in the cafeteria.
