Chapter 2: Solving Equations Section 2.9: Percents

Finding Percents Whenever we have a percent, put it over 100! Ex. 35% = 35 100 We need to do this every time!! When we take a percent of a number, we are taking a part of the whole number. We always want to put this in fraction form also. Ex. 22 of 60 = 𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡 𝑤ℎ𝑜𝑙𝑒 = 22 60 We need to always put the part over the whole!!

54 90 = 𝑝 100 54 100 =90𝑝 5400=90𝑝 60=𝑝

Practice What percent of 70 is 21? 21 70 = 𝑝 100 2100=70𝑝 P=30%

Practice What percent of 50 is 60? 60 50 = 𝑝 100 6000=50𝑝 P=120%

63 84 = 𝑝 100 𝑝=75% 63 100 =84𝑝 6300=84𝑝

Practice What is 35% of 80? 𝑥 80 = 35 100 100𝑥=35 80 X=28

Practice What is 25% of 144? 𝑥 144 = 25 100 100𝑥=144 25 X=36

Practice What is 45% of 70? 𝑥 70 = 45 100 100𝑥=45 70 X=31.5
