How do you think climate effects what vegetation and animal or in a region or area?
A branch of biology It deals with the relations of organisms to one another and to their physical surroundings.
BIOMES A biome is an area over a large area with the same climate, plants, and animals. There are six major biomes that we will learn: 1. Desert 2. Tundra.

A BIOME is the largest geographic biotic unit, a major community of plants and animals with similar life forms and environmental conditions.
Unit 15: Terrestrial Biomes Overview. biome large geographic areas that have similar climates and ecosystems (the types of organisms that live there)
The Taiga biome is the largest of the biomes in the world. It is located at the top of the world right bellow the Tundra biome and it spans across Eurasia.

Unit 5 Biomes, Ecosystems and Population Limiting Factors Access Biology Section 3

SC.912.L.17.5 Analyze how population size is determined by births, deaths, immigration, emigration, and limiting factors (biotic and abiotic) that determine carrying capacity. SC.912.L.17.In.2 Identify that living things in an ecosystem are affected by changes in the environment, such as changes to the food supply, climate change, or the introduction of predators. SC.912.L.17.Su.2 Recognize how animals and plants in an ecosystem may be affected by changes to the food supply or climate. SC.912.L.17.Pa.2 Recognize what happens to plants and animals when they don’t get enough food or water. Standards for Unit

Essential Questions/Big Ideas for this Section What is a biome? What are the 6 major biomes? What are the characteristics, plants and animals in each biome? What are ecosystems? What impacts population size?

Biosphere The biosphere is the outermost part of the planet’s shell The biosphere includes air, land, surface rocks, and water Life occurs within the biosphere

Biomes are named for the main type of vegetation they contain Biome describes areas on the earth with similar climate, plants, and animals.

As we explore the different biomes in this unit, record types of plants, animals and characteristics of each biome. Name of Biome Location Animals Plants Charateristics Have student do their own research and find additional facts. Other option enlarge and have student draw, cut/paste pick from pictures.

What is the Tiaga Biome? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLOo4HbLDAs

Location: It is the largest of the biomes and is in Canada, Europe, Asia, and the United States Description: Also known as “Coniferous forests.” Taiga regions have cold, long, snowy winters, and warm and humid summers Plants: Coniferous-evergreen trees (trees that produce cones needles). The trees are narrow and grow very close together. This is so they can help protect each other from the weather. Animals: Snow, cold, and a lack of food make life hard, especially in the winter. Some taiga animals migrate south, others go into hibernation, while others simply deal with the environment.  Taiga

Temperate Deciduous Forest Location: Eastern United States, Canada, Europe, China, and Japan Description: Temperate forests have four distinct seasons. Leaves change color in autumn, fall off in the winter, and grow back in the spring. Plants: Broadleaf trees (oak, maple, beech), shrubs, and mosses. Animals: Animals living in this biome must adjust to cold winters and hot summers by hibernating, migrating, or keeping active all winter. Temperate Deciduous Forest

Animals found in a temperate forest Match the animal with the picture: Grey Squirrel, Wild Turkey, Black Bear

Examples of plants in a temperate forest Oak, Maple and American Beech are just a few of the plants.
