The American Dream Grab a blue springboard book and turn to page 31 Read the following: “America the Beautiful” by Katherine Lee Bates (31-32) “America” by Claude Mckay (33) “Shine Perishing Republic” by Robinson Jeffers (34) Write the tone of each poem. Provide a quote that shows this this tone and explain how it shows that specific tone. REMEMBER – Tone = how the author feels. So, you are indicating how these writers feel about America. Choose which speaker and tone in the previous poems and song most closely resembles your attitude toward America and describe why. Describe how personal experiences align you with this attitude and any small differences in your viewpoints. If none of the poems coincide with your beliefs then explain how you feel about America. 5-7 sentences Turn in when finished and start reading chapter 1 of The Great Gatsby
