Implementing Region 10 Air Directors Funding Decision Level of Accuracy Needs Idaho DEQ Oct 23 2006

Air Directors Funding Decision Provide $ 300,000 annually from EPA 105 funds to support critical core operations at University of Washington and Washington State University Transition from project funds into core grant funds by FY2008

Why have this discussion? Expectation to improve the connection between technical improvements to policy and operational needs. Provides a framework for Air Directors to influence outcome and better understand advances or set backs in improving tools. Technical Staff should “yardsticks” to measure progress To develop an understanding of the degree of error that is acceptable for products that support policy or operational needs

Key Questions Do you agree with this concept? Can we develop a meaningful matrix of parameters that will describe your technical needs. What do we mean by “level of accuracy required”? What happens when a parameter’s accuracy expectation is met? Who has unique needs?

How to describe Accuracy Relative vs Absolute? Uncertainty Sufficient to make operational or policy decisions of consequence

Next Steps Complete State and Local discussions and develop matrix- Nov 2006 Discuss at NWAIRQUEST meeting and produce summary matrix representing all participants- Dec 3-4 Present to Region 10 Air Directors- Dec 5-6

The New Face of NWAIRQUEST
