Buoyancy:-Because the pressure in a fluid in equilibrium increases with depth, the fluid exerts a resultant upward force on anybody wholly or partly immersed in it.

Linear Stability of floating and submerged bodies When a small upward displacement applied, caused decreasing in volume of liquid displaced an unbalanced downward force tends to return the body to its original position. Similarly, a small downward displacement in greater buoyant force, which causes an unbalanced upward force.

The body which in a vertical stability, also has rotational stability when restoring couple is set up by any small angular displacement.

The rotational stability of floating bodies We are not here concerned with effects of a fluid in motion but with states of equilibrium. We must, however, distinguish three types of equilibrium.
