Energy Cards Activity Read the following scenario. Identify the forms of energy present and put the energy cards in order of their transformation. I ate a turkey sandwich for lunch but am not feeling so well. I am nervous because I will be going bungee jumping for the first time today. I biked over to the bungee jumping center and had to climb up a bunch of stairs to get to the top of the tower. By the time I reached the top I was sweating like crazy. I got strapped into my harness and stepped up onto the ledge. I closed my eyes and jumped off, shouting out as I fell down the tower.

Energy Card Activity - competition The power has gone down in my house so I fill my generator with gasoline. I turn on my generator and sit on the couch to watch some tv. Water goes through a hydroelectric dam and spins a turbine. This hydroelectric dam is connected to my house. I turn on my stove to boil some water in my kettle. I hear the whistling of my kettle when the water is boiling. A coal power plant starts by burning coal. Water is then boiled into steam, which turns a turbine connected to a generator. This coal power plant is connected to my house. I use the outlet in my house to charge the batteries in my electric car. After it is charged, I go for a drive. http://www.duke-energy.com/about-energy/generating-electricity/coal-fired-how.asp

Assessment Menu Comic Strip Rube Goldberg Web Energy script With a partner, pick two options from the assessment window on the next slide. In each case, you should end up showing at least 6 different types of energy and at least 5 energy transformations. Comic Strip Rube Goldberg Web Energy script 15 min to do each one

Complete the energy transformation web worksheet. Energy script: Comic Strip: Draw a comic strip of at least 6 frames that shows energy flowing from frame to frame! Rube Goldberg: Create a plan for a crazy energy machine that shows at least 6 forms of energy! Web: Complete the energy transformation web worksheet. Energy script: Write a script of the energy you came into contact with since you woke up today. Rube Goldberg? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qybUFnY7Y8w

Law of conservation of energy The total amount of energy in a system remains constant ("is conserved") Energy cannot be created or destroyed. Energy can only be changed from one form to another

Conservation of energy  It is impossible to convert one form of energy into another without wasting some energy. Example: Automobile engines typically waste more than two-thirds of the total energy used, primarily through heat. In an isolated system, the energy will remain constant.

Exit Slip What is the law of conservation of energy? Based on this law, why does a thermos keep your drink hot for a longer period of time?
