Year 7 Partnership Evening Thursday 4th October 2018

Learning and Teaching - Mastery This year the learning and teaching focus is on learning for MASTERY. Building solid foundations for the new GCSEs and A Levels

Why Mastery Learning? Research has consistently found that students in well-implemented mastery learning classes consistently reach higher levels of attainment and develop greater confidence in their ability to learn and in themselves as learners. Preparing students to face challenges beyond the classroom. Encourages resilience, a growth mindset and problem solving!

How will students be assessed? Mastery learning – focuses on skills and on how students are progressing towards the expected standard for their year group. No individual targets. All students should reach at least the Expected standard. Departments have subject-specific criteria to help all students understand how to make progress.

Assessment & Reporting Go4Schools Reports

Aspiring, Expected or Exceptional Reports We will produce 6 reports on Go4Schools. The first two reports will contain an EFFORT and HOMEWORK grade as well as indicate if there are any issues with handwriting. At February half term and the end of the school year, the report will include a MASTERY descriptor: Aspiring, Expected or Exceptional This descriptor will explain whether your son/daughter has reached the expected level required for their year in the subject. The minimum threshold to achieve expected requires a high level of knowledge, understanding and application of the skills and processes within a subject.
