Experiment Design and Purpose What Science is really all about!

Identify a Problem and Do Research! That is: ASK A QUESTION! Then, do some research: This can include: Reading Watching Videos Observing nature Etc.

Forming a Hypothesis Important!!!: Use caution when using the following two words: Hypothesis & Theory A hypothesis is a suggested answer to a question or problem A theory is a set of hypotheses that have been supported by testing over and over again A hypothesis is an educated guess—a possible answer to your question that can be tested!

Design and Carry out an Experiment This is where you test your hypothesis and see if you can answer your original question. We will be designing controlled experiments where all conditions (variables) except one are kept the same (constant) Before you begin, it is important to design a procedure and follow it exactly every time you test your hypothesis. Be specific!

Record and Analyze Data During your experiment keep careful notes and measurements (remember you decided what to measure in your procedures!) After you are done with the experiment, you will need to study the data to find patterns! It may be very helpful to make graphs or charts of your information

Stating a Conclusion Was your hypothesis correct or not? What is the answer to your original question? Were there any problems during your experiment that may have given you the wrong conclusion? Are there new questions that you have? What is the next experiment you would need to do to further prove your hypothesis?
