EAPN: Fighting for a Social Europe Free of Poverty Future of PeP Meetings Exco Nov 2013 EUROPEAN ANTI-POVERTY NETWORK RÉSEAU EUROPÉEN DES ASSOCIATIONS DE LUTTE CONTRE LA PAUVRETÉ ET L’EXCLUSION SOCIALE

Original Idea Social Open Method of Coordination – National Action Plans on Inclusion Objective 4 Direct participation of people experiencing poverty Share Experiences from the national level of implementing objective 4 so as to strengthen this participation

Who is the European Meeting of people experiencing poverty for: Delegates People experiencing poverty who are starting to connect to anti-poverty organisations Some previous delegates to help with continuity Guests Rep of National and EU level Institutions (Political and Functionaires) Rep of NGOs, Social Partners, Academics and other relevant actors

What are the meetings for To empower the delegates in their journey from PeP to Activists with direct experience of poverty Reality Check: For Guests to check the reality of their approaches to fight poverty against the experience on the ground and to adjust as necessary To strengthen the participation of people experiencing poverty in Anti Poverty NGOs and relevant policy making processes To strengthen the participation of people experiencing poverty in relevant EU processes

Format of the Meetings: Formal Format reflecting other types of consultations as part of the Social Open Method of Coordination Last Year a format that reflected the reality that PeP feel themselves shut out of EU Consultation processes and that asserted their right to participate in their own development and to be more visible.

Questions for the Exco Have we a common understanding of who the PeP meetings are for? Have we a common understanding of what the EU Meetings are for? What should the format of the 2014 be?

Next Step Getting agreement with the Commission on the support available for the 2014 meeting A Meeting of responsibles from National Networks and European Organisations to go forward with the planning for the 2014 meeting We need to create space to look at how we are building from the peP in to our objective re participation in EAPN
