Thirty First President “THE GREAT ENGINEER” Herbert Hoover Thirty First President “THE GREAT ENGINEER”

Born son of a Quaker blacksmith in a small village in 1874.

orphaned at age 7, he grew up in Oregon a lonely child.

As a youth, he showed great intelligence and a strong work ethic. He won a scholarship to Stanford, where he graduated as an engineer. As an engineer he traveled the world and became very wealthy. (spoke Mandarin Chinese)

Out of college, he married his sweetheart Lou Henry

Millionaire by 40. His Credo: Hard Work=Success (Gov role-ump)

Favorite Hobbies were Fishing and

Baseball

WWI, became world famous in heading the Commission of Relief and the Food Administration.

After WWI, he was put in charge of all Economic relief in Europe After WWI, he was put in charge of all Economic relief in Europe. (Russia)

From 1921-1928, Herbert Hoover was Secretary of Commerce for both, Harding and Coolidge. Reputation of saving business and government $

Hoover’s first several month were grand.

But the events at the end of his first year would lead to a national nightmare. Banks will close.

People will go hungry.

and the Depression will bring down the great engineer.
