Coupling between intrinsic rotation and turbulence-driven residual stress in the TEXTOR tokamak (Y. Xu et al, EX/P8-18) In low <ne> discharges (open symbols), substantial residual stress has been observed. It shows a quasi-linear dependence on P, consistent with theoretical predictions. However, in case of high-density (filled symbols), the residual stress is strongly suppressed. It appears that there is a minimum ErB flow shear (~ 3x105 s-1) for the breaking of k// symmetry. These findings provide the first experimental evidence of the role of ErB sheared flows in developing residual stresses and intrinsic plasma rotation.
