Common Core Standards: Thursday, March 7th, 2019 Common Core Standards: RI.11-12.1 RI.11-12.2, and SL.11-12.1 Aim: How does the film Twelve Years a Slave convey Frederick Douglass’ experiences? Do Now: Answer one of the following questions. 1.) What can you anticipate you will view in a film about slaves’ experiences? 2.) What can you predict might be historical inaccuracies in the film Twelve Years a Slave? *Return Douglass’ novel (if you uploaded your essay on jupitergrades.com). Objective: Students will be able to view a film and identify comparisons and contrasts between Douglass’ experiences in his novel.

Objective:: Students will be able to view a film and identify comparisons and contrasts between Douglass’ experiences in his novel. Agenda A.) Do Now: Turn and talk with your tablemates. Captains will prepare to share their tablemates’ answers with the whole class. B.) Discuss/Share: -Captains will share Do Now answers. C.) Film Viewing: Watch the opening scenes from the film Twelve Years a Slave. Take notes on similarities and differences between the film and Douglass’ novel. D.) Exit Slip: What were your first impressions of the film? How can you compare and contrast Twelve Years a Slave with The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass?
