Social Issue The world wastes approximately one third of the food it produced In the U.S. restaurants send almost 84% of unused food to the landfill 133 Billion Pounds How can we help send less unused food to landfills?

Social issue- Landfills 33% of what goes into landfills is compostable Huge potential to clear up space in landfill Food scraps can have very negative impact on landfills We want to eliminate as much compostable material from landfills

Why food scraps are Bad for Landfills Adds to the increasing piles of waste Toxins such as leachate pollute the soil and area Organic material breaks down in an anaerobic process releasing methane gas into atmosphere Environmental issues

Our Approach to solving this Problem Crazy Composters will provide restaurants with compost bins depending on an estimated amount of wasted food scraps they will produce One of our compost collectors will go to restaurants based on a predetermined pick-up schedule and collect the food scraps They will be taken to our maintenance facilities to be turned into “good” compost by our maintenance team We will then sell the compost to landscapers for profit

Current approaches and flaws City of Denver Trash Services Only allow a limited number of participants Scraps Use bicycles. Small Service area Alpine Waste and Recycling Only use large dumpster like containers City Scraps Charges for compost collection

Why Us and why we can self sustain We don't charge for compost collection This will lead to far more restaurants wanting to compost with us over competitors We sell the compost to landscapers Will sell for approximately $40 per cubic yard By not charging for compost collection, we believe we can steal the current competition This will increase our amount of compost we collect and maintain Leading to larger amount of compost inventory to sell to landscapers Leading to steady stream of revenue

Resources needed Very few resources needed to start Compost collection bins (multiple sizes) Compost maintenance facility/ maintenance workers Compost collection/delivery drivers and trucks

Potential Impact on the Public Our indicators of Public good How much food scraps have we removed from Denver landfills? How much compost have we donated to community gardens? To help with local hunger issues
