Landforms and Bodies of Water San Diego Bay is a natural harbor and deepwater port located in San Diego. It is next to the city. It is 12 mile long and 1 to 3 miles wide. About 15 miles east of the bay are the Laguna Mountains in the Peninsular Ranges. The San Diego River runs through the middle of San Diego from east to west, creating a river valley which divides the city into northern and southern parts. The river used to run into San Diego Bay, and its fresh water was where the earliest Spanish explorers rode.

Landforms and Bodies of Water The city lies on approximately 200 deep canyons and hills separating its mesas, giving it a hilly geography and creating flat parts of land. Notable peaks near the city include the highest point in the city at 1,593 feet, Cowles Mountain. Black Mountain is at 1,558 feet, and Mount Soledad is at 824 feet. The Cuyamaca Mountains and Laguna Mountains rise east of the city, and beyond the mountains are deserty areas. The Cleveland National Forest is a half-hour drive from downtown San Diego. Numerous farms are found in the valleys northeast and southeast of the city.

Tourist Attractions San Diego Zoo- this San Diegos top tourist attraction. It is the largest zoo in the world. It is 107 acres with over 800 different species of animals. Balboa Park- one of the most popular urban parks in the United States. It is a 1,200 acre park, containing many theaters, restaurants, museums, golf courses, and the world famous San Diego Zoo. It is an amazing place to take your family. Petco Park- the San Diego Padres baseball park. It is a great atmosphere to watch baseball, no matter what the score is. In centerfield, there is a large sandbox, where you can go and play in. The ballpark is located between 7th and 10th avenues, south of J Street, which is in the city.

USS Midway Museum- The U.S.S Midway Museum is a real naval aircraft carrier that served in the United States Navy for 47 years. It has been turned into a museum where you can go in it, and see how they would live. It has real airplanes and jets on the deck, some you can even go into. It is located in the Pier of San Diego. LEGO Land of California- this is a theme park and amusement park based on LEGOs. It is a high tourist attraction, and is located just outside San Diego. You can check out huge lego replicas, and go on some rides.

L ANGUAGE English makes up 65 percent of San Diegos language at home. At home means the language talked at home, so people may speak English in the city. About 25 percent of people speak Spanish.3 percent of people speak Chinese. Tagalog is at 2.0 percent and Vietnamese at 1.3 percent.

San Diego celebrates the usual American holidays such as the Fourth of July, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day,Veterans Day, and Presidents Day. San Diego doesnt really have its own unique holiday, the closest one is César Chávez Day.

Economy The economy of San Diego is influenced by its deepwater port, which includes the only major submarine and shipbuilding yards on the West Coast. Several major national defense contractors were started and are now in San Diego. Tourism is a major part of San Diegos economy. The climate is very nice in San Diego, so it is a great place to be. Many people go there for beaches, the San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, and many other attractions. People go on cruises in the bay, and that is the second largest cruise group in California. San Diego's port and location on the United States-Mexico border make international trade really important In the city's economy. Manufacturing and real estate are also contributing parts of San Diegos economy.

San Diego is home to the USAs largest wooden structure; the Hotel Del Coronado is in San Diego on Coronado island. Hua Mei, the first baby panda was born in San Diegos Zoo to a pair of giant pandas. Charles Lindbergh flew off from San Diego on May 9, 1927, in the Spirit of St. Louis, headed for New York, and then non-stop to Paris. The worlds oldest, still working ship, the Star of India built in 1863 has her home port in San Diego. Each year over 200 cruise ships lay in San Diego harbor. Sports San Diegos NFL football team is the San Diego Chargers. They play in Qualcomm Stadium. The Chargers won three NFL Championships, but no Super Bowls. San Diegos MLB team is the San Diego Padres. They play at Petco Park, and never won a World Series. Theyve never been a great team. The San Diego State Aztecs is the major basketball team in San Diego. They do not have a NBA team.

The San Diego sports curse is a superstition for the city of San Diego's inability to win a modern North American major league professional sports championship (Super Bowl, World Series, Stanley Cup, and NBA Finals). With a population of over one million, San Diego is the largest city in the United States with this curse. San Diego also has the curse of having the longest major league championship drought for any city that has at least two major sports franchises. The San Diego Chargers have the only winning record for a major sports team in San Diego.
