Outline Differences Between the Old and New System Course list(imported from course query system) Preference Order How Preference Order Works Instructions for Using the New System

Differences between the old and new system Old System User interface optimization Unfriendly user interface Course list(imported from course query system) Need to copy and paste course code to finish adding or dropping Available in both Chinese and English Inconsistent information in systems of two languages List of Preference allows courses with conflict schedule during pre-registration stage. This way, students may have higher chance to have courses. Didn’t allow courses with conflict schedule and only one P.E. course was allowed during pre-registration stage.

Course List(Not yet added to list of preference) Two ways to add: Enter course code or click “add to list” Can be imported from the new course query system Maximum: 30 courses

List of Preference Maximum: 20 courses Allows courses with conflict schedule, no restrictions on maximum credit Allows several P.E. courses and general education courses You will be able to add the course to the list of preference as long as you are eligible for it. Higher chance to get courses.

Description of Drawing The draw starts form the courses of 1st preference order

Description of Drawing We suppose all courses have the same size limitation of 50 students. If 200 students have Course 1 as their 1st preference, the system will perform a random draw of 50 students from these 200 students. If only 30 students have Course 3 as their 1st preference, then those 30 students will have the course. The system continues to finish all the courses with 1st preference. The system starts to process the 2nd preference. If 120 students have Course 1 as their 2nd preference, then no one is going to have the course because the course is already full from the 1st preference. If 80 students have Course 3 as their 2nd preference, the system will perform a random draw of 20 students from these 80 students, because the course has 30 students from the 1st preference. The system will process as above until all the courses and preferences are finished.

Description of Drawing If Student A has got the course of his/her 1st preference… and all the 1st preferences are processed… when it processes Course 3 and 2nd preference, the points of 2nd preference for Student A will be deducted by 50, since he/she has got the 1st preference. The points of 2nd preference are still 2400 for those who did not get the course of their 1st preference. From the previous slide, the system will select 20 students out of the 80 students who had Course 3 as their 2nd preference. So Student A will have lower chance to get Course 3(2350<2400). If Student A does not get 2nd preference, then the points of 3rd preference for Student A are still 2300. If Student A gets 2nd preference, his/her 3rd preference will be deducted by 50 points(2400-50=2350). It would not double the deduction although Student A successfully got his/her 1st and 2nd preferences. 2400-50=2350分 2300-50=2250分 2300分

Description of Drawing If you have got the courses in the previous preferences, you will not get any courses which have conflict schedules. If your credit has reached the maximum credit, you will not get any more courses from the list of preference. If you have got one P.E. course from the list of preference, you will not get any more P.E. courses from the list of preference. Maximum subjects of general education courses (from the list of preference): 3 for 4-year undergraduate program 2 for 2-year undergraduate program

New system would be officially in use on 5/28 or 5/29. From 5/24 to 5/27, the test environment will be available, so that students can get familiar with the new system. The link of test environment will be announced in the student information system on 5/24.
