Was Athenian Democracy Fair?
All Athenians were allowed to rule themselves
Majority rule was fair. The Athenians voted and laws were passed if more than half the voters supported the law.
All members of one group or class had equal rights All male citizens were allowed to belong to the Assembly and vote, except for those citizens who lost their citizenship through acts which were against the law.
All women, slaves and metics were not allowed to vote
Slavery was accepted in Athenian society A persons right to own another person was never challenged by anyone in Athenian culture. Even Socrates, who was considered to be a great thinker (wise person) thought it was normal.
There were no individual or minority rights Whatever was thought of as best for the common good of the population was the most important value.
