Mon. 8/29 JOURNAL CHECK TODAY The University of Chicago won't cancel controversial speakers, and it "does not condone the creation of intellectual 'safe spaces' where individuals can retreat from ideas and perspectives at odds with their own.“ Journal about whether or not you agree or disagree with this statement and why. Mon. 8/29 JOURNAL CHECK TODAY

The following paragraph has 93 words; the same message can be conveyed in less than 30-35. Read the below passage, then re-write it, ensuring the most important ideas are stated, and it must be less than 35 words. The thing about writing is that it is important in helping a person to communicate in a better and clearer way, as well as more directly and concisely. When teachers have students practice writing it is because it is for their own good, whether they realize it or not. Teachers will come up with writing assignments that will help students learn to say as much as possible and as thoroughly as possible without using too many words. That is one of the ways in which writing helps you to think more clearly and directly. Monday Challenge
