Background http://www.icann.org/adhoc/index.htm • Resolution to establish an Ad-Hoc Group was adopted at the August 1999 meeting in Santiago. • A Charter for the Ad-Hoc Group was endorsed by the ICANN Board at November 1999 meeting in Los Angeles. • The Ad-Hoc Group should identify the key technology, commercial and economic drivers that will affect addressing and numbering in the Internet. • The Ad-Hoc Group will work through a Public Comment Forum on the ICANN website. • The ICANN Board has invited a small Editorial Group to coordinate the Forum.

Tony Holmes Tasks Proposal http://www. icann • Task 1. Identification of future trends in networks, services and applications that may impact on IP numbering and addressing. • Task 2. Identification of any new service and application characteristics that may not be accomplished through the existing application independent architecture for IP routing and addressing structures. • Task 3. Assessment of the likely impact resulting from task 1 on the administration of IP address space. • Task 4. Identification of key addressing requirements and trends that may impact on global policy formation.
