How to make an Environmental Quality Analysis Or how to assess how good or bad a place is!

An EQA or Environmental Quality Analysis is : - One person’s opinion of how good or bad a place is It can consider human or man-made features And physical or natural features of an area

It usually uses a scale of 1 to 5 1 - Good 2 3 4 5 - Bad Noise levels

Your task You are going to do six EQAs around the school grounds in pairs One person will complete one sheet with three locations and the other person will do the other using three different locations – then you will each have a completed sheet for your Geography books

What sort of location could you choose ?

Some possible suggestions : -

What aspects might we look at when assessing the school grounds ?

Some possible examples : - Litter Noise Dust Smell Appearance

Behaviour We trust you to behave sensibly Please tell an adult at once if you see someone misbehave You must not go into areas where you are not allowed to go normally – except our side of the mobiles Remember to walk on the ramps and inside Return to class when you hear a whistle

In pairs, decide on what you want to assess when we walk around the school grounds Draw up some sort of recording sheet Decide on 5 or 6 areas where you want to do your survey.

Now do your environmental survey Can you present your results in a clear way?

Local Walk next week We need help from parents We will be looking at good and bad areas of the neighbourhood. Eg. Litter, noise, dust and dirt, traffic, well cared for gardens, pollution, graffiti, smell, green open spaces and appearance including uncared for areas
