21st Century Educator Skills By Abdou Yammine

Core Subjects Mastery of core subjects and 21st century themes is essential for students in the 21st century. Core subjects include: English, reading or language arts World languages Arts Mathematics Economics Science Geography History Government and Civics

Globally Aware Teacher should Incorporate short foreign language lessons into everyday activities. Start a recycling project in the classroom. Look at weather reports from around the world. Assign students the famous world landmarks to research Ask students to examine the contributing factors of global climate change. Emphasize geography in lessons. Make students ambassadors of the world.

Creative Teacher Creative should: Make teaching genuinely satisfying and enjoyable. Begin each class period with some kind of reading. Have a game with learning value, that he play periodically with students. Ends the class with some regular expression or quotation. Keep an inventory of things to pass out for students to examine.

Innovative Teacher Innovative should: Engage and Inspire Students. Save Time and Be More Productive. Take into account the “big picture” of his units and school year. Encourage critical thinking skills Celebrate and share his successes Have a backup plan Create his own internal “tech support” Demonstrate technology skills Have fun!

Teacher Collaborative Collaboration means providing special education in regular education classrooms. Increasing Student Achievement Turn around Schools Share responsibility for all students. Connect lessons to students' lives—meaning making. Engage students with challenging lessons to teach complex thinking. Emphasize dialogue over lecture. Give equitable attention to all students. Involve parents in student learning.

Teacher Critical Thinker The Critical Thinking Characteristics are: Dispositions: Critical thinkers are open-minded, value fair-mindedness, respect evidence and reasoning, respect clarity and precision, look at different points of view, and will change positions when reason leads them to do so. Criteria: Need to have conditions that must be met for something to be judged as believable. Although the argument can be made that each subject area has different criteria, some standards apply to all subjects.
