OBSTETRICS It is the branch of medicine that concerns management of a women during pregnancy, delivery and puerperium

It is the period from 28 weeks of intrauterine life to 7 days of birth PERINATE Branch of medicine dealing with neonate. NEONATOLOGY

Infant Neonate Post Neonate From birth till one year of age. From birth till one month of age. Post Neonate From 1 month till one year of age.

ANTENATAL INTRANATAL POSTNATAL BEFORE BIRTH ANTENATAL DURING BIRTH INTRANATAL AFTER BIRTH POSTNATAL

Physiological condition of a woman during reproductive period (15-45yrs) in which development of fertilized ovum occurs in maternal body. PREGNANCY/ GESTATION It is the duration of gestation calculated from the first day of the last menstrual period. Gestational age is expressed in completed weeks. GESTATIONAL AGE

LABOUR (DELIVERY):- Labour is a series of changes that occur in genital organ in the process of expulsion of fetus from uterus through vaginal to exterior. PRE-TERM LABOUR:- Labour start before 37 completed week is pre-term labour. L.M.P.:- 1st day of last menstrual period. E.D.D.:- This is the expected date of delivery, which is calculated by adding 9 calendar months and 7 days forward from L.M.P.

Gravida Nulli-gravida Primi-gravida Means total number of conception/pregnancy including the present one. Gravida Woman who has never been pregnant. Nulli-gravida A woman who is pregnant for the first time. Primi-gravida A woman who has been pregnant for more than one time. Multi-Gravida

Parity Nullipara Primi-para Multipara Grand- Multipara It means total number of deliveries after 28th weeks of gestation(period of viability). Parity A woman who has never completed a pregnancy to the stage of viability. Nullipara A woman who has delivered one viable child Primi-para Multipara Grand- Multipara

The number of deliveries that occurred after 28th weeks of gestation and the deliveries that occurred before 28th weeks of gestation can be expressed as Para 1+1. Example, G4P1+2:- means a woman is pregnant for 4th time now, she delivered 1 baby after 28 weeks of gestation and 2 baby abortion or before 28 weeks of gestation. ALC :- Age of last child.

ANTENATAL CARE:-It is the regular & periodic medical supervision of a pregnant mother from the time of conception until the onset of labour, to achieve healthy mother and healthy baby. STANDARD ANC VISIT – 14, INTERMEDIATE ANC VISIT - 5, Minimum ANC visit - 3. INTRA NATAL CARE:- Care of woman and her child at the time of delivery. POST NATAL CARE:-Care of woman and her baby after delivery till 42 days postpartum.

LIVE BIRTH STILL BIRTH ABORTION The baby which is born after 28 completed weeks and shows sign of life at birth. LIVE BIRTH The baby which is born after 28 completed weeks and shows no sign of life at birth. STILL BIRTH It is the process by which the product of conception are expelled out from uterus via birth canal before 28th weeks of gestation. ABORTION

TERM BABY:-The baby which is born after 37 completed week to 42 weeks. PREMATURE/ PRETERM BABY:-The baby which is born after 28 completed weeks but less than 37 completed weeks. POST MATURITY/POST TERM BABY:- The baby which is born after 42 completed weeks. DATE:- 40 weeks of gestation. POST DATE:- Pregnancy beyond 40 weeks is known as post dated .

BIRTH WEIGHT:- 2500gm or more. LOW BIRTH WEIGHT:- If the weight of baby immediately after birth is less than 2500gms, it is known as low birth weight. INTRA-UTERINE GROWTH RETARDATION(IUGR):-Baby whose birth weight is below the 10th percentile for the gestational age is known as IUGR. MORTALITY:- Means death. MORBIDITY:- It means disease suffered from complication.

PERINATAL MORTALITY:- It is defined as death of the baby after 28th weeks of gestation till the first 7th days of life. NEONATAL DEATH:- Death of baby within the first month(28 days) of life. INFANT MORTALITY:- Death of baby within first year of life. MATERNAL MORTALITY:- It is the death of a woman during pregnancy, delivery or with 42 days of termination of pregnancy, irrespective of duration and site of pregnancy, from any cause related to or aggravated by pregnancy or its management but not due to accidental or incidental cause. MATERNAL MORTALITY RATE:-It is the total number of death of mother from pregnancy, delivery &puerperal cause during a calendar year per 1000 live births.

Antepartum hemorrhage (APH):- Any amount of bleeding from or into the genital tract after the 28th weeks of pregnancy but before the birth of baby. 2 types:- 1. PLACENTA PREVIA:- The placenta is implanted partially or completely in lower uterine segment is known as placenta previa. 2. ABRUPTIO PLACENTA:- It is one form of APH , where bleeding occurs due to premature separation of normally situated placenta.

PPH bleeding from genital tract at any time after birth of the baby upto the end of puerperium amounting more than 500 ml. 2 types:- PRIMARY Bleeding more than 500 ml from genital tract within 24 hours following birth of baby. SECONDARY Bleeding more than 500 ml from genital tract after 24 hours of delivery upto end of puerperium.
