LITTLE FREE LIBRARY® TAKE A BOOK, SHARE A BOOKTM 1

The Little Free Library nonprofit organization is the force behind the global book-sharing movement.   Our mission is to inspire a love of reading, build community, and spark creativity by fostering neighborhood book exchanges around the world. “We’re bringing neighborhoods together through books, literacy, and conversation, talking about common goals.” –Founder Todd Bol 2

International Reach and Impact!   There are more than 80,000 registered Little Libraries located in every state and 91 countries worldwide. Through them, tens of millions of books are exchanged each year.

The Little Free Library Nonprofit Motivates and Supports Volunteer Stewards Who Are Neighborhood Heroes. Stewards maintain and manage their book exchanges for the benefit of their community. Stewards may be private individuals or connected to local organizations.   4

Little Free Library increases access to books. Little Free Library Uniquely Addresses Two Social Needs at the Same Time   1. Literacy Little Free Library increases access to books. 2. Social Connection Little Free Library draws people together and strengthens community ties. 5

Book Access Is a Building Block of Literacy 32 million adults in U.S. can’t read above a fifth grade level, and 19 percent of high school graduates can’t read. The link between academic failure and delinquency, violence, and crime is welded to reading failure. –Dept. of Justice   6

Social Connection Improves Well-being Research suggests that social connectedness is waning at an alarming rate in the US. 73% of volunteer stewards report that they have met more neighbors as a result of their Library; 92% say their neighborhood feels like a friendlier place as a result of their Library.   7

LFL Programs Target Critical Needs 1. Steward Services   1. Steward Services Our core program: Growing the sharing network by motivating and supporting our volunteer stewards. 2. Impact Library Program Providing Little Libraries to communities in need. 3. Action Book Club™ Combining reading with community service projects. 8

An Empowering Solution in Tune with the Times   The charm and clear purpose of each Little Library inspires new volunteer stewards in an ever-expanding wave of adoption. “An almost perfect expression of literary democracy.” --LA Times 12

Our favorite thank-yous come from some of the neediest patrons of Little Free Library book exchanges. Board of Directors Little Free Libraries support reading in children, but also reach homeless populations. Literacy and health are closely linked: low literacy prevents people from understanding doctor’s instructions, taking prescriptions correctly, and more. Headquarters in Hudson, Wi 13

when a Little Free Library full of relevant and appealing books We imagine a day when a Little Free Library full of relevant and appealing books is part of everyone’s daily life. THANK YOU! Your Friends at Little Free Library   14

—Dave Eggers, author, publisher, and philanthropist “I see Little Free Libraries everywhere, and they always lift the heart. They are an intrinsic good, [like a community garden or a free clinic]. They are the best of ourselves.” —Dave Eggers, author, publisher, and philanthropist   15
