Figure 1 Displayed are flow-mediated (FMD, left panel) and nitroglycerine-mediated vasodilation (NMD, right panel) of the brachial artery at baseline and after six months of treatment with fluvastatin (FLU; ▪) or placebo (PLA; □). Data are mean ± SEM. *P < 0.01 vs. baseline and P < 0.05 for group × time interaction. Figure 2 Brachial artery distensibility coefficient (DC) at baseline and after six months of fluvastatin treatment (FLU; ▪) or placebo treatment (PLA; □). Data are mean ± SEM. Figure 3 Change in brachial artery flow-mediated vasodilation (FMD) plotted against change in total serum cholesterol after six months of treatment with fluvastatin (FLU; ▪) or placebo (PLA; ○). Neither in FLU- nor in PLA-treated patients was there a significant correlation between the change in serum cholesterol and the change in FMD (r = 0.29, P = NS for FLU, and r = 0.16, P = NS for PLA).
