Do Now: Answer one of the following questions. 1.) How can people living today learn from Frederick Douglass’ adversities? (provide three examples) 2.) Why was Frederick Douglass able to overcome his adversities? (provide three reasons) *Show HW: 50 things to be grateful for. Objective:: Students will be able to compose a a thematic essay on The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. Agenda A.) Do Now: Turn and talk with your tablemates. Captains will prepare to share their tablemates’ answers with the whole class. B.) Discuss/Share: -Captains will share Do Now answers. -Introduce the thematic essay outline for the HW. --Discuss the following questions: Which essay question will you focus on and why? Which textual evidence from the novel do you think you could use for your thematic essay and why? Why do you believe it’s important to read a slave narrative in 2019? C.) Work Period: Begin to identify textual evidence (6 pieces of evidence will be required) to support your chosen essay question. D.) Q & A/Reflections: What are your next steps to prepare to compose a thematic essay?
