* The current population of Turkmenistan is 5,877,877. * Turkmenistan’s population is equivalent to 0,08% of global population. * Turkmenistan is 113 th in the world by its population. * 48,6% is urban population. Introduction

* The majority of Turkmen people are ethnic Turkmens (85%) with the large minorities of Uzbeks (5%) and Russians (4%). Small minorities include Kazakhs, Tatars, Ukrainians, Kurds, Armenians, Azers, Balochs and Pashtuns. ( data differs due to sources) * In 1939, 18,6% of population was ethnic Russian which fell to 9,5% till1989. * Muslims make up to 89% of the population while 9% follow the eastern Orthodox Church and the other 2% are non- religious.

 The density of population differs, one sources states that, it is 12 per km 2 and another sources claims that it is 10,5 people per km 2.
