Common Core Standards: Thursday, March 14th, 2019 Common Core Standards: RI.11-12.1 RI.11-12.2, and SL.11-12.1 Aim: How can we compose an argument on the existence of the American Dream? . Objective: Students will be able to compose an argument on the American Dream. Do Now: Do both of the following tasks. 1.) Super Quiz on Vocabulary Lists 3 and 4. 2.) Read the argumentative essay outline (handout). Write your claim/answer to the essay question and two reasons to support your answer: Is the American Dream still alive or dead? *Show owed HW. Return Douglass’ novel (if you uploaded your essay on jupitergrades.com).

Mini-Lesson: Review argumentative essay outline format (handout provided). D.) Video viewing: Video on debate of the existence of the American Dream D.) Reflections: What can you predict about the play Fences (set in the 1950’s) and its focus on the theme of the American Dream?
