Appointments Training Q&A Summary
Roster Percentages Q: Are there any appointments where you don’t need to indicate the roster percent? A: All paid appointments should have a roster percent that corresponds to the maximum FTE allowable for that appointment. Unpaid courtesy appointments would not need a roster percent, but when a courtesy appointment changes to paid it would. Q: Would there be a circumstance when the roster and the FTE would not match up? A: In the case of any temporary change such as reduced responsibility or any leaves such as medical or sabbatical, the roster and the FTE might not match up. Outside of temporary FTE reductions expect FTE and roster percentages to match up.
Lecturer Part-Time Q: Can a Lecturer Part-Time ever be at 100% FTE? A: Yes (sometimes). A Lecturer Part-Time - Temporary can be appointed at 100% FTE on a quarterly basis. They cannot be appointed for more than one quarter at a time if they are at 100% FTE. A Part-Time Lecturer appointed for a full academic year would never be at 100% FTE. Q: If a Lecturer Part-Time - Temporary reaches the three year limit, what’s next? A: If a Lecturer Part-Time - Temporary is renewed quarter by quarter and their appointment is the equivalent of an annual appointment at 50% or greater, reappointment is limited to three consecutive academic years. After that, the faculty member must go through a competitive recruitment. Q: Where can I find more information about the Provost’s Guidelines on Lecturers?
