Changing requirements for Critical Power Systems What has changed? High efficiency has become mandatory The need for reliability has increased Smaller footprint is required More information and manageability is needed Depending on the application, there are more design requirements and priorities: Top 5 : 1. Reliability 2. Efficiency 3. Flexibility/Scalability 4. Manageability 5. Serviceability Bottom line – need to plan for changes (moves, additions etc.), Power problems are always there, although depending on your IT equipment, power quality may not be a critical requirement compared to power availability. Need to select the best power protection technology and power distribution technology to satisfy these criteria – note, efficiency should not be the highest priority as this may impact on reliability. The primary purpose of any UPS is always to provide reliable power.
