CIS Working Group on Programme of Measures 15 October 2015 WATER RE-USE Best practice: Kalundborg Symbiosis

Mrs. Lisbeth Randers Head of business development department Kalundborg Municipality and Secretary for Kalundborg Symbiosis

The largest industrial area out side of Copenhagen, generating hundreds of new jobs in the private sector, esp. medico, every year since the financial crisis.

Kalundborg Symbiosis

In totale more than 50 different streams. 3 different kinds of streams: energy, residual streams and water. I will talk about 3 specific themes within industrial reuse of water

Use of surface water

Kalundborg Utility Total water consumption 2014 Totale water consumption 6,7 mio m3 Consumed by industry 5,9 mio m3 Surface water Tissø 3,4 mio m3 1 mio m3 of the treated surface water replaces ground water The minimum water level of lake Tissø has been threatened 3 og 4 times during the last 12 years

Future – climate changes?

Bilaterale recirculation of water between Statoil and DONG A role model for Kalundborg Symbiosis: The board of directors

The algae plant: a test and demonstration facility, turning wast water into valuable biomass, cleaning water in a CO2-neutral way.

Microalgae plant – reuse of industrial waste water The algae plant: a test and demonstration facility, turning wast water into valuable biomass, cleaning water in a CO2-neutral way. Economically and Ecologically Efficient Water Management in the European Chemical Industry
