Drawing structural formulas for branched chain alkanes: Use the parent chain name to draw out the parent chain. Attach the alkyl groups according to their location. Fill all carbons with the appropriate number of hydrogens so each carbon will have four covalent bonds. Ex. Draw the structural formula for 5-ethyl-4,5-dimethyl-3- propylheptane
