Luke 8:41-56

Luke 8:41-56 And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was an official of the synagogue; and he fell at Jesus’ feet, and began to entreat Him to come to his

Luke 8:41-56 house; for he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying. But as He went, the multitudes were pressing against Him.

Luke 8:41-56 And a women who had a hemorrhage for twelve years, and could not be healed by anyone, came up behind Him, and touched the fringe of His

Luke 8:41-56 cloak; and immediately her hemorrhage stopped. And Jesus said, “Who is the one who touched Me?” And while they were all denying it, Peter said,

Luke 8:41-56 “Master, the multitudes are crowding and pressing upon You.” But Jesus said, “Someone did touch Me, for I was aware that power had gone out of Me.”

Luke 8:41-56 And when the woman saw that she had not escaped notice, she came trembling and fell down before Him, and declared in the presence of all the people

Luke 8:41-56 the reason why she touched Him, and how she had been immediately healed. And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well, go in peace.”

Luke 8:41-56 While He was still speaking, someone came from the house of the synagogue official saying, “Your daughter has died; do not trouble the Teacher

Luke 8:41-56 anymore.” But when Jesus heard this, He answered, “Do not be afraid any longer; only believe, and she shall be made well.”

Luke 8:41-56 And when He had come to the house, He did not allow anyone to enter with Him, except Peter and John and James, and the girl’s father and mother.

Luke 8:41-56 Now they were all weeping and lamenting for her; but He said, “Stop weeping, for she has not died, but is asleep.” And they began laughing at Him, knowing

Luke 8:41-56 that she had died. He, however, took her by the hand and called saying, “Child, arise!” And her spirit returned, and she rose immediately; and He

Luke 8:41-56 gave orders for something to be given her to eat. And her parents were amazed, but He instructed them to tell no one what had happened.

Canadian scientist G. B. Hardy once said, “When I looked at religion I said, I have two questions.

One, has anybody ever conquered death, and two, if they have, did they make a way for me to conquer death?

I checked the tomb of Buddha, and it was occupied,

and I checked the tomb of Confucius and it was occupied,

and I checked the tomb of Muhammed and it was occupied,

and I came to the tomb of Jesus and it was empty.

And I said, There is one who conquered death.

And I asked the second question.

Did He make a way for me to do it?

And I opened the Bible and discovered that He said, ‘Because I live ye shall live also.’”

2 Corinthians 13:4 For indeed He was crucified because of weakness, yet He lives because of the power of God.

2 Corinthians 13:4 For we also are weak in Him, yet we will live with Him because of the power of God directed toward you.

These are the very questions to which we all must find the answers.

In today’s passage we’re going to come in contact with the one who conquered death.

We’re going to see both the power and sensitivity of Jesus.

How to walk in authority and gentleness.

Jesus will display His sovereignty, majesty, loving-kindness and compassion.

In the midst of demonstrating that He has power over sickness and death,

He will remain accessible, available, touchable, impartial and powerful.

Jesus is Accessible!

Luke 8:41 And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was an official of the synagogue; and he fell at Jesus’ feet, and began to entreat Him to come to his

Luke 8:41- 42a house; for he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying.

As an official of the synagogue in Capernaum he had a lot to lose by coming to Jesus for help in broad daylight.

Instead of coming at night like Nicodemus, he humbled himself and bowed at His feet.

He was in desperate need for his family and knew that Jesus could help him.

His only daughter who was twelve years old was near death.

Instead of preparing for womanhood and stepping into all that life had to offer, she was sick and dying.

Just imagine the overwhelming and heavy burden of the mother and father.

Jesus not only met with Jairus and listened to his situation, but He went with him.

Jesus is Available!

Luke 8:42b But as He went, the multitudes were pressing against Him.

Have you ever experienced a crowd pressing against you?

Jesus was willing to change His schedule and even deal with some traffic.

Even though He had a very important vision to accomplish, He wasn’t too busy for people.

He made time!

Jesus is Touchable!

Luke 8:43-44a And a women who had a hemorrhage for twelve years, and could not be healed by anyone, came up behind Him, and touched the fringe of His

Luke 8:44b-45a cloak; and immediately her hemorrhage stopped. And Jesus said, “Who is the one who touched Me?”

We’ve talked a little bit before about the hem of His garment.

As a Jewish Rabbi He would have been wearing tzitziyot.

Numbers 15:37-41 The Lord also spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the sons of Israel, and tell them that they shall make for themselves tassels on

Numbers 15:37-41 the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and that they shall put on the tassel of each corner a cord of blue.

Numbers 15:37-41 And it shall be a tassel for you to look at and remember all the com-mandments of the Lord, so as to do them and not follow after your own eyes,

Numbers 15:37-41 after which you played the harlot, in order that you may remember to do all My commandments, and be holy to your God.

Numbers 15:37-41 I am the Lord your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt to be your God; I am the Lord your God.”

In faith and repentance she reached out to Jesus and was healed!

For twelve years she spent money on getting better and nothing seemed to help.

She risked everything by even being in the crowd much less touching a Rabbi.

Jesus didn’t condemn her for not asking or being unclean.

He said, “Daughter, your faith has made you well.”

Jesus is Impartial!

Luke 8:47a And when the woman saw that she had not escaped notice, she came trembling and fell down before Him, and declared in the presence of all the people

Luke 8:47b-48 the reason why she touched Him, and how she had been immediately healed. And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well, go in peace.”

Whether you’re a religious official or a woman who has been declared unclean by society, Jesus cares about you.

He is clearly not bias or partial.

Acts 10:34 And opening his mouth, Peter said, “I most certainly understand now that God is not one to show partiality,

Acts 10:35 but in every nation the man who fears Him and does what is right, is welcome to Him.”

He cares about every race, creed, color and nation.

He doesn’t love men more than women or women more than men.

He doesn’t love the rich more than the poor or the poor more than the rich.

Jesus loves!

The whosoever will and the mixed multitudes are welcome at the feet of Jesus Christ.

Jesus is Powerful!

Luke 8:52 Now they were all weeping and lamenting for her; but He said, “Stop weeping, for she has not died, but is asleep.”

Luke 8:53-54 And they began laughing at Him, knowing that she had died. He, however, took her by the hand and called saying, “Child, arise!”

Luke 8:55 And her spirit returned, and she rose immediately; and He gave orders for something to be given her to eat.

Luke 8:56 And her parents were amazed, but He instructed them to tell no one what had happened.

Jesus loved well.

He didn’t let other peoples’ ignorance, unbelief or even laughter keep Him from the work of the Father.

Many people with power don’t care about the needs of others.

But that’s definitely not the case with Jesus.

Jesus Cares!

He is still accessible, available, touchable, impartial and powerful today.

Come bow before Him, repent and make your requests known.

John 11:25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies.”
