Aka Who’s relative is a monkey? Evolution Jeopardy Aka Who’s relative is a monkey?

After Charles Darwin saw similar but different species on the Galapagos Islands, he wondered if they could have been this thousands of years earlier. What are the same species?

Chucky realized all animals in a species are this. What is different?

How species on the different Galapagos Islands compared. What is close, but not the same?

One of the bird adaptations Darwin noted. What is beak shape?

Different species of tortoises on nearby islands caused Darwin to think this about the tortoises’ ancestors. What is the same species?

Darwin’s phrase for evolution. What is “Natural Selection” or “Survival of the Fittest”?

What happened in Darwin’s life that caused him to come up with “Natural Selection”. What is observing many species in different places?

Major concept in Lamarck’s view of evolution. What is “ body structure can change according to actions of the organism”?

Cutting the wings off 50 generations of fruit flies and then having the 51st generation grow long wings disapproves this theory. What is Lamarck’s theory of “inheritance of acquired characteristics”?

The reason Darwin did not publish his theory right away. What is contradicted fundamental scientific belief at the time?

Method farmers and ranchers use to breed the best plants and livestock. What is artificial selection?

Darwin’s phrase for organisms thriving and passing on inherited adaptations. What is “survival of the fittest”?

Name for unused pelvis and femur bones in a whale. What is vestigial?

All the genetic information of a particular population. What is the “gene pool” or “gene type”?

Change in the sequence of DNA. What is a mutation?

Many different phenotypes in a population are caused by this. What is sexual reproduction?

Jeopardy Round Two main sources of genetic variation What are mutations and gene shuffling?
