Agenda Welcome and check-in Stakeholder engagement Next steps overall_0_131951350508525592 columns_1_131951350508525592 3_89 Agenda Welcome and check-in Stakeholder engagement Next steps

overall_0_131951350525258426 columns_1_131951350525258426 Engaging the right people at the right time is critical to developing and implementing the best answer

First, identify the critical stakeholders overall_0_131951350549754197 columns_1_131951350549754197 6_85 First, identify the critical stakeholders Groups that will be most affected by the work Trusted influencers that could serve as strong promoters Potential detractors that could stall progress Key decision-makers that must be on board As I mentioned earlier, the Leading for Impact program gives our team the opportunity to do two customized projects with support from The Bridgespan Group. We are currently in the midst of one of these projects, focused on strategic clarity. [Explain context for the project, the key question, the analysis approach, how staff will be involved, and what to expect in terms of next steps and timing]

Next, consider how to engage them in the work of the project overall_0_131951350590837005 columns_1_131951350590837005 Next, consider how to engage them in the work of the project Put them to work on the project Steering Committee Advisory groups Client maps Project management roles Give them avenues to provide input Interviews Surveys Focus groups As I mentioned earlier, the Leading for Impact program gives our team the opportunity to do two customized projects with support from The Bridgespan Group. We are currently in the midst of one of these projects, focused on strategic clarity. [Explain context for the project, the key question, the analysis approach, how staff will be involved, and what to expect in terms of next steps and timing] Keep them informed Overview of project intent and process Frequent updates of project progress

Exercise: Thinking about engaging key stakeholders overall_0_131951350653499436 columns_1_131951350653499436 Exercise: Thinking about engaging key stakeholders With your thought partner, consider: Who will be affected by the decisions you are likely to make? Who will influence the decision? How can you best engage these groups, now and into implementation? Customize by cohort: If majority of clients have already had discussions on stakeholders on project calls, you can run this as a group discussion to share out If clients would benefit from the exercise, then break into groups and use the hand-out Capture your thinking on the Handout so you can share/test it with your full team later today

Group discussion: Engaging key stakeholders overall_0_131951350700559462 columns_1_131951350700559462 Group discussion: Engaging key stakeholders Which stakeholder groups did your team identify? Which group strikes you as the most important to engage? How will you engage them? What is going to be the hardest thing to get “right” with this group? Customize by cohort: If majority of clients have already had discussions on stakeholders on project calls, you can run this as a group discussion to share out If clients would benefit from the exercise, then break into groups and use the hand-out

overall_0_131951350810182838 columns_1_131951350810182838 5_85 Handout: Identify the critical few stakeholders (or groups) who should be involved and how Key stakeholders (e.g., Program Directors) What type of engagement? (e.g., decision-makers, inform only, seek input) How can we best engage them? (e.g., one-on-one, in teams) Critical points for engagement (e.g., quarterly team meeting on April 1)
