Fig 1 Graph of stroke volume, pulse pressure variation and fluid administration during a complicated case with major bleeding. This case was patient number 3. It was a redo of hip arthroplasty which was really complicated for the orthopedic surgeons. The surgical case was bleeding throughout the 5 h of the surgical case. The graph covers nearly the 5 h case during which 20 boluses of 100 ml (2000 ml) of albumin 5% was administered. As you can observed, shortly after induction, the closed-loop gives fluid until the stroke volume reaches the plateau of the Frank-Starling relationship and after delivers fluid to maintain the stroke volume constant during the case.
