In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My media product was a music magazine of the Pop genre My media product was a music magazine of the Pop genre. Both of these concepts determined the actual appearance of my magazine, as for example Pop is often related to ‘fun’ or ‘fantasy’. Looking into the genre of Pop and the certain poses/backdrops ect, I was able to find similar artists in which I considered to be ‘in’ and study their photo shoots etc for my front cover. I made sure my models pose on my magazine was ‘fun’, to show the audience the evident comparison between my genre of magazine and others.

All of my fonts through the magazine are typical ‘Pop’, bold but still remain girly so the audience is clearly shown. Making the font bold as well as girly makes the writing stand out and seize the readers attention. My main font for all headings and subheadings was ‘American typewriter’ I found this very easy to read yet also appealed to me (my age is within my target audience) so also saw it as girly. Throughout my music magazine my colour-scheme was pink/purple, white and black. I chose these colours in particular as I wanted to create a sense of diversity to highlight the genre and place of the magazine, using both dark and light colours. My front cover, contents and double page spread feature article are all coherent of the same colour scheme.

The type of images I have used have been greatly varied to give my magazine more differentiation. My front cover image used a mid shot (which is a common convention of Pop magazines) and is posed, but posed to look ‘fun’ and not intimidating. The contents has various images, all mostly mid shot again or long shot , some are posed and others are natural. The double page spread Image used is a long shot, it has my model in as well as her surroundings. I did this because I wanted to draw attention to her motions in the shot as well as her clothing and how they all fit with the ‘Pop’ convention. In my writing I used mostly formal language as although my magazine is Pop and is aimed at younger generations, it is not a ‘Hip-hop’ style so I wouldn't’t use any colloquiums ect. I have however used language and speech which will seem more realistic to my audience.
