News From the First Grade This Week We Are Learning: “If you do your best each and every day, good things are sure to come your way!” ~Princess Tiana News From the First Grade Tuesday: September 4, 2018 This Week We Are Learning: About the letters f, b, g, and short i (kindergarten review.) How to identify the characters, setting and plot of a story. How to identify and use verbs in sentences. How to solve one more and one less story problems. How to compare and order numbers. How to use tallies to display, describe, and organize data. Homework for the shortened weeks… Yay! It’s already Tuesday!! As usual, you will find this week’s spelling words on this newsletter. Please have your child write their spelling words three times each on the back. You are also receiving the weekly fluency passage to practice. Simply complete the fluency activities on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week. MAP TESTING: Last Friday and today, students completed their first MAP test of the year. The MAP, (Measures of Academic Progress,) test is taken twice a year. The students take the test online in our school computer lab. This test enables us to measure the students’ academic growth, and identify the students’ needs in both reading and math. We use the results of these tests to form small groups and tailor our instruction to meet the students’ individual needs. We will send the results of this test home as soon as possible so that you can see how much the students have grown since Kindergarten.
