Walking along the River Thames is an alternative to gardens and parks. Farmers’ markets sell fresh food at expensive prices. K West Spa is an ideal place to get pampered. FALSE You can go swimming in Topshop on Oxford Street. Hipster London spots include Kensington and Chelsea. You can play rugby and cricket at Southbank Centre. Gazpacho is an Italian pizza. TASK TWO – Three sentence summary of the article ‘Sunday morning in London’ gives a variety of possibilities regarding the ways you can spend your time in London on a Sunday. Like a Time Out article, it features activities in parks, gardens, spas, walking locations, tourist spots and shopping centres to visit. In addition, it adds a personal touch by encouraging a mixture of activity and downtime. TASK THREE – Find four adjectives and four verbs in the article Four adjectives –fantastic, exorbitant, trendy, freezing Four verbs – recovering, catching, going, make TASK FOUR - How does the writer convey his feelings about London? (Write three PEE paragraphs to answer this question) P – The writer conveys his love of nature and how London is filled with places to go despite being a bustling city. E – The list is extensive but includes “going for a walk [in] Hyde Park”, visiting “Kyoto Garden in Holland Park” and seeing an “unlikely natural habitat…Camley Street Natural Park”. E – This shows that London caters for all tastes. There may be busy streets for shopping, business and commerce but there are many places to reflect on the beauty of the natural world. L – The writer conveys his feelings about London by showing the wealth of possibilities of things to do on a Sunday.
