Mission Plan Study of tropical cyclogenesis, intensification, transition and demise Based out of Guam Other aircraft include USAF C130 and DLR Falcon P3: dropsondes, ELDORA and P3DWL C130: dropsondes Falcon: dropsondes, DWL Use ferry flights to collect long curtains of wind soundings to test data impact on NWP. Pax River to Whidbey Island Whidbey to Hawaii Hawaii to Guam

P3DWL Status Pre-installation lab test conducted April,2008 Pre-installation scanner tests conducted in March Post installation ground tests 4 -6 June. Scanner worked and then failed Returns from atmosphere achieved Ferry flight Pax River – Boulder No signal after takeoff Scanner remained inoperative
P3DWL Status P3 currently in NCAR hanger in Boulder Scanner problem found to be binding due to dust ring and aerodynamic wipers Fix was found and scanner now performs well Transceiver was removed and sent to LMCT Transceiver OK Alignment with telescope not OK; suspect is the 17 and 57 Hz P3 engine vibration Mounting for transceiver was redesigned and parts ordered. Reinstallation expected this week Next test flight scheduled for 11 July LMCT person will fly with the system
