Coming to know Him
God has revealed Himself to us… It has been… “to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways…” In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, [Hebrews 1:1 NIV]
At present we (to the best of my knowledge) have no written record(s) of God’s conversations or interactions with our ancestors before Moses’ writings. Mostly believers who gather here, our doors are open to anyone… Unbelievers are troubled by people who believe God revealed knowledge to Moses
7 Now Moses used to take a tent and pitch it outside the camp some distance away, calling it the "tent of meeting." Anyone inquiring of the LORD would go to the tent of meeting outside the camp. ... 9 As Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and stay at the entrance, while the LORD spoke with Moses. [Exodus 33:7, 9 NIV]
39 You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me to have life. 41 "I do not accept glory from human beings, [John 5:39-41 NIV]
God revealed Himself in steps, over time. [Hebrews 1:2 NIV] 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. [Galatians 4:4 NIV] 4 But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
What was know about God before Moses? Language and writing did exist before time of Moses Did God interact or revealed Himself to others beyond our knowledge gained through Moses? We are warned to accept the revelation as it is. Jude 3; Deuteronomy 4:2 Revelation 22:18,19
Mormons say a Book of Abraham was revealed to Joseph Smith in 1835 Mormons say a Book of Abraham was revealed to Joseph Smith in 1835. They claim this papyri fragment (discovered in 1967) proves it.
Knowledge of God before Moses Centered within a Family line… Abraham and his family Abraham – Isaac – Jacob – Jacob wrestles with God and his name is changed to Israel. The children of Israel
Beginning with Abraham God revealed that if a person believed in him, (more than mental assent) they could be in relationship with Him. [Genesis 15:5-6 NIV] 5 He took him outside and said, "Look up at the sky and count the stars--if indeed you can count them." Then he said to him, "So shall your offspring be." 6 Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.
God further reveals Himself to Moses [Exo 3:13 NIV] 13 Moses said to God, "Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, 'What is his name?' Then what shall I tell them?"
[Exo 3:14-15 NIV] 14 God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM [Exo 3:14-15 NIV] 14 God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you.' " 15 God also said to Moses, "Say to the Israelites, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers--the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob--has sent me to you.' "This is my name forever, the name you shall call me from generation to generation.
[Exo 6:2-3 NIV] 2 God also said to Moses, "I am the LORD [Exo 6:2-3 NIV] 2 God also said to Moses, "I am the LORD. 3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name the LORD I did not make myself fully known to them.
Things observed in the context about “I am” [Exo 3:15 NIV] 15 God also said to Moses, "Say to the Israelites, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers--the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob--has sent me to you.' "This is my name forever, the name you shall call me from generation to generation.
Things observed in the context about “I am” [Exo 3:16 NIV] 16 "Go, assemble the elders of Israel and say to them, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers--the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob--appeared to me and said: I have watched over you and have seen what has been done to you in Egypt.
[Exo 3:17 NIV] 17 And I have promised to bring you up out of your misery in Egypt into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites--a land flowing with milk and honey.'
[Exo 3:19-20 NIV] 19 But I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless a mighty hand compels him. 20 So I will stretch out my hand and strike the Egyptians with all the wonders that I will perform among them. After that, he will let you go.
[Exo 4:21 NIV] 21 The LORD said to Moses, "When you return to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders I have given you the power to do. But I will harden his heart so that he will not let the people go.
[Exo 4:22-23 NIV] 22 Then say to Pharaoh, 'This is what the LORD says: Israel is my firstborn son, 23 and I told you, "Let my son go, so he may worship me." But you refused to let him go; so I will kill your firstborn son.' "
It brings us to the question Do you rest in the understanding God as your “I AM” The eternal one who has made and make a way for you.
Who has revealed Himself in Jesus [Hebrews 1:3 NIV] 3 The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
