Summary Shutter Island is a 2010 American psychological thriller film directed by Martin Scorsese. The film is based on Dennis Lehane's 2003 novel of the same name. Leonardo DiCaprio stars as U.S. Marshal Edward "Teddy" Daniels, who is investigating a psychiatric facility on Shutter Island.

The OTS has many short shot which are distraught and are very hypnotising for example the high angle shot falling going down a swirling circle staircase. This backs up the films label as a physiological thriller. Here is a link to the OTS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obvksJ7-4hQ

Narrative/Plot In 1954, two U.S. Marshals, Edward "Teddy" Daniels and his new partner, Chuck Aule, travel to the Ashecliffe Hospital for the criminally insane on Shutter Island located in Boston Harbour, as part of an investigation into the disappearance of a patient , incarcerated for drowning her three children. But before long he wonders whether he hasn't been brought there as part of a twisted plot by hospital doctors whose radical treatments range from unethical to illegal to downright sinister.  We believe the two detectives are protagonists but only one is.

Location We have a couple of scenes before the main OTS. These scenes give us some sense of were it will be set and even the Title Sequence shows us where it will be unlike most Thrillers. The location is an island in which inherits an asylum. Scene of them approaching the Island

Characters We see no characters in the short opening title sequence for Shutter Island but what we do before the OTS. We see two detectives on a boat, heading towards the island. We still don’t know whether they are the main characters all we do know is that most thrillers include a pair of detectives.

Cinematography In the OTS there are various scenes. It also includes few creative shots. Some of the shots included in the OTS, are close ups, point of views and pan shots. Close up of some ones foot on a pistol Long Shot

Close Up Birds Eye View, in which the camera is falling down causing a short hypnotised effect on the audience.
